National Trivia
Association Presents Quizzo! Frequently Asked Questions
About The National
Trivia Association:
The National Trivia Association is a
company which organizes lists and promotes pub trivia games that take place in
bars and restaurants across the country. Much like the National Football League
runs individual divisions, teams and contests; the NTA has created a structure
for nationwide pub trivia competition consisting of Divisions, Sub Divisions,
Individual Quizzes and Teams.
Currently, NTA organizes and
promotes various pub trivia games across the country including, but not limited
to "Quizzo". Quizzo was first popularized in New Jersey &
Philadelphia, but has become popular in other parts of the United States,
including Chicago, Illinois, Hawaii, Portland, Oregon, Denver, Colorado, Logan,
Utah and Washington, D.C. The National Trivia Association is based in Atlantic
City, New Jersey.

I. What is Quizzo?
Quizzo, presented by the National Trivia Association is a nationally
organized live “game show style” trivia competition. The first version of this
game originally started in the early 1990’s in Philadelphia, PA. Since that
time, various versions of Quizzo run by dozens of independent hosts have spread
across hundreds of bars in the greater Tri State area. Quizzo has been a proven
way to increase attendance at restaurant and bars with the average consumer
spending anywhere from 15-30% more time per visit and between 10-20% more per check.
NTA offers a nationally organized 7 round version of Quizzo covering a wide
variety of quiz subjects. Venues host this two hour weekly game in order to
draw in consistent audiences who eat and drink while they play. Unlike computer
trivia services our game focuses on a high level of crowd involvement in a
“team oriented” atmosphere with no equipment purchases necessary. NTA offers
centralized tournaments and prizes for Quizzo contestants and has created a full
social networking web site which features heavy user interactivity. Quizzo
teams may include as many people as requested with the top ten players from
each team being eligible for the national tournaments. Simply put, people who
participate in NTA’s Quizzo do so religiously every week, providing a
significant increase in each establishment’s business during the quiz.
II. Who hosts the game?
Each Quizzo host handles all aspects of administering the quiz and at no
time will venue management need to be involved in the process. The Quizzo game
runs year round unless a game falls on a holiday which requires the host venue
to close. Teams who score win multiple Quizzo games qualify for a tournament in
June held at Bally’s Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ
NTA has been writing trivia questions for over 5 years. NTA has hosted over
1,000 live Quizzo games. With over 70 unique questions asked each quiz NTA has
researched and created over 100,000 questions. We are commonly asked “where do
you get Quizzo questions from”? The answer is NTA spends dozens of hours each
week researching periodicals and the internet gathering that diamond in the
rough amongst the seemingly endless piles of uninteresting facts.
III. How do NTA’s questions compare to computer trivia
games often found in bars?
Since our company has years of experience dealing with the crowds firsthand,
we have an understanding of what works and what doesn't. Our ultimate rule is
that questions must be fun. Computer based trivia games tend to have questions
that are either “multiple choice” format, poorly phrased or simply not
motivating to learn. We use facts that keep people interested. Computer trivia
games can be played every day the establishment is open and offers a blind
competition where a few people quietly enter their answers with no feedback or
discussion taking place. Our game is highly interactive and runs for only 2
hours per week making it an event people specifically come out for. It is
common for a venue to pick their worst night and attempt to turn it into a success
by adding a trivia night.
IV. What
does it take to have my establishment host Quizzo?
If you already run a Pub Trivia Event, NTA can help market your product for
free! Your hosts are eligible to use our website to help organize results and
promote the game. If you are a venue in need of a trivia night, becoming an NTA
Quizzo affiliate is often less than the price of a DJ and can help revive your
weakest night. Generally, venues also provide sanctioned prizes such as T
shirts or free food to the winning team, while these prizes are highly
encouraged as a way to keep people coming back, they are not required as part
of the affiliate program.
V. Does NTA create currently relevant questions and do
they repeat quiz questions?
NTA writes new questions for each week’s Quizzo, very rarely are questions
repeated in the same five year span. Quizzo incorporates current events into
each contest. Many trivia sites and local games are outdated and do not include
current events. If a celebrity gets caught doing something 'they shouldn't have
done’, you can be sure that they have inspired a NTA question. Further we have
designed the quiz to keep people interested in current sports, news and entertainment
happening as a way of preparing for each week’s quiz.
VI. How do you keep people coming back to Quizzo?
Getting a reaction and keeping the crowd entertained is what Quizzo is all
about. Having a combination of funny, easy, tricky, hard, teaser questions
makes for a better experience for everyone and separates NTA from all other
trivia games. NTA knows people enjoy getting questions right more than they
enjoy getting them wrong and thus some questions are made easy on purpose. With
teams taking place in a yearlong national competition with desirable national
prizes, we create dedicated teams that consistently return each week.
VII. How long does it take to build a Quizzo crowd?
Word of mouth is the key to growing a successful quiz. While advertising can
help, until people experience Quizzo for themselves it is a hard thing to
explain. Often a new quiz will take anywhere from one month to one year to
fully develop, but once that happens, consistently large crowds become loyal
patrons. Teams will start off small and then begin to recruit people to handle
particular parts of the quiz. Many times these recruits will join up with their
friends or co-workers' team after hearing about the Quizzo experience. The
bottom line is that Quizzo players become genuinely intrigued with how the game
is played and as that happens; teams grow weekly increasing business for the
host establishment.
